WHAT ARE THE RITUALS OF NAVRATRI???

Navratri, meaning "nine nights," is a Hindu festival celebrated over a period of nine days and nights. It honors the nine forms of the Goddess Durga. The rituals of Navratri vary across different regions of India, but some common practices include:

1. Ghatasthapana: This marks the beginning of Navratri. A pot or kalash filled with water is placed, and seeds are sown in it, symbolizing the beginning of life.

2. Puja and Aarti: Devotees perform daily prayers and aarti (rituals of worship involving light) to honor Goddess Durga. This is usually done in the morning and evening.

3. Fasting: Many people observe fasts during Navratri, abstaining from certain foods such as grains, non-vegetarian items, and sometimes even salt. Some may observe a complete fast for all nine days, while others may fast on specific days.

4. Kanya Puja: On the eighth or ninth day of Navratri, young girls, symbolizing the nine forms of Goddess Durga, are worshipped. They are offered food, gifts, and blessings as a form of reverence.

5. Garba and Dandiya Raas: These are traditional folk dances performed in Gujarat and some other parts of India during Navratri. Participants dance in circles, clapping and moving rhythmically to traditional music. Dandiya Raas involves dancing with sticks.

6. Navratri Kolu/Doll Display: In South India, particularly in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, families arrange a display of dolls and figurines called Golu or Kolu in their homes. These displays often depict scenes from Hindu mythology and are visited by friends and family.

7. Reading of Durga Saptashati: Many devotees read the Durga Saptashati, also known as the Devi Mahatmyam, during Navratri. It is a sacred text that narrates the victory of Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon Mahishasura.

8. Visiting Temples: People visit temples dedicated to Goddess Durga during Navratri to seek her blessings and offer prayers.
